How Can severe Eye Pain Be Treated?

For three weeks I have had pain(an aching pain in my left eye) . I just had an eye exam and the exam was good witih no pressure in my eyes. For two weeks i have also had an aching pain in the left side of the upper gum. I asked my dentist why I was having the pain in my gum. He took an x-ray of the area and he found problem with the tooth in that area. What could be causiing the pain?
